Shilintong OPC (sugar coated tablets)
Kim tien thao (Desmodium styracifolium Osb.Merr, Fabaceae) is a medicinal herb which is very effective in treating diseases of kidney stone and gall-stone (especially in case of forming stone in urinary system) without any side effects. Desmodium styracifolium was shown decades ago in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia in 2 monographs: Guangjinqiancao (raw material) and Shilintong (finished product). The Chinese traditional medicine has perceived Desmodium styracifolium as the ideal herb to treat disease of stones forming in the urinary system, to soothe inflammation, to relieve pain, etc.
With modern processing techniques, OPC Pharmaceutical Joint-Stock Company has produced “Kim Tien Thao - Shilintong” in 2 pharmaceutical forms: sugar coated tablet and film coated tablet suitable for patient’s choice.
The clinical trials showed that Kim tien thao was highly effective in treating calcium oxalate stones. The treatment duration depends on the size and the location of stones in the urinary system. After recovering from clinical symptoms, “Kim Tien Thao - Shilintong” can be taken continuously with a lower dose to prevent recurrence of forming stones.
